
The Hanged Woman
The hanging in Murder Most Foul is similar. We see it as a silhouette on a blind, a projection. And the shock is mediated through the buffoonery of the policeman. Similarly, the hanging in Murder Ahoy is seen from the reaction shot of the foolish sea captain.
More significantly, Marple reacts with minimal emotion to the carnage. People die all around her, and she is delighted to get on with the puzzle of figuring out whodunnit. Her reactions are inhuman and her pursuit unnatural.
