Torch Battle

We've seen how Marple wields torches to seek the truth. But strangely she often takes the opposite role, withholding information, keeping others in the dark, hiding behind curtains.

Here, torchlight is turned against her, but she is ready to use something stronger to repel the invader. Where light proves traitor, physical violence might be more reliable. Elsewhere in the films she wields pistol, golf club, cudgel, vase (twice) and, as we have already seen, rapier. She seems more than willing to fight fire with fire.
