The Somnambulist

The imagery of one who walks in dreams is not arbitrarily related to Marple. In Murder Most Foul one of the actors is a believer in the spiritual world who casts cards and portends the future. Her other uncanny ability is to sleepwalk on the same night that a murder has been committed.

This somnambulist mirrors Marple's own nocturnal perambulations, to remind us that her night-time strolls are not natural, but the product of a mind at least half in some other world.
