Dream

This is the space of dreams, an expanse framed by archways under a canopy of stars. Is it the dead prince who dreams the mantis, or is it we who dream the entire scene? Or perhaps it was all the dream of Escher himself, who cut "Dream (Mantis religiosa)" in 1935? This is a question right out of Borges.

Could we survive being woken to a giant mantis on our chest? Or would we turn to wood beneath that threatening presence?

"The head is the best part
My headcut my woodcut
I saw you in the gallery
With your torso and family"
-- "Head Cut" by Siouxsie & the Banshees
