Sarcophagus

The evocative image from Escher relates directly to the "Egyptian" scene in Murder She Said, when Marple is exploring the stable at night and finds the murder victim in the sarcophagus. There is no sign of violence to the dead, so we might imagine the victim simply sleeps like all the other inhabitants of the nocturnal world through which Marple prowls. Or perhaps she is only "dead" because Marple has disturbed her peaceful rest with her own inquisitions, awaking her at an inauspicious time.

Brain wave studies have found that we are closest to deep coma, not when asleep, but when watching television. As viewers we are truly dreamers.
